The Boulevardière
The Boulevardier is one of my FAV drinks of all time. Bourbon, Campari, Sweet Vermouth…where can you go wrong? But for so long I have been wanting to make my OWN version of this delicious cocktail.
While visiting the Aura Distillery in Buzet, Croatia I discovered their almost endless selections of Brandies. One in particular stood out to me, Teranino. It’s a red wine brandy with spices. This got my creative juices flowing!
The Aura Distillery website states that it’s a fav among females…which in my opinion is a very dated statement. Reminds me of the time when I was in Paris and my French guy friends gave me Porta (port) since women drink Porta over wine, well, that’s what they told me. I proceeded to finish the Porta along with half a bottle of wine in which they stated “American women are very different than French women.” I beg to differ! Rising above, I began to play with the Teranino brandy. And I found some fun!!!
To honor my fellow women I created this twist on a classic, naming it The Boulevardière, the feminine version of The Boulevardier, which means a man who frequents the boulevards, originating in Paris, quite fitting. And we all know the name of a women who frequents the boulevards, I think it’s time for a revamp! Just in time for the Holidays!!!
The Boulevardière
1 1/2 oz Bourbon*
1 oz Campari
3/4 oz Aura Teranino**
Place ingredients in Japanese mixing glass OR tall glass (I use a tall crystal vase I found at the thrift store) add about 4-5 regular sized ice cubes and stir long and well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist. ENJOY!!
*Since bourbon is distilled its considered gluten free BUT there are 100% Corn Bourbons out there that are amazing. Being 100% corn doesn’t technically make them bourbon BUT I’d rather drink 100% corn bourbon than feel like shit. Just saying.
**Okay, getting this spirit in the US is damn near impossible. HERE is a link to recipe to make your OWN spiced red wine liqueur and it’s gluten FREE.
